Ludwig Van Beethoven free essay sample

He is one of the worlds most famous German and is considered one of the greatest composers of all time. HIS music has proven to be timeless. Even people who do not have direct access to classical music, the famous intro of the familiar Symphony No. 5. Ludwig van Beethovens exact birth date Is unknown. Tradition has It only his baptismal date, the 17th December 1770. Beethoven was paternal born Into a musical family. HIS grandfather, also named Louis, was Experimentalist In Bonn.Beethovens father, Johann also worked as a musician, but his career suffered under his constant drinking. Nevertheless, he was the driving force behind the musical education of his son The young Ludwig learned in early childhood piano, organ and violin. And similar to Mozart to Beethovens father also made sure that the talented son gave his first public concert at age seven. At 16 Beethoven traveled to Vienna to study when he wanted to take lessons with Mozart supposedly, but this did not materialize. He was unsatisfied with Hayden because he was preoccupied and commonly missed many mistakes made by Beethoven (Schmitt, 17). Beethoven, then, went to Neff who himself started composing at the age of 12.In the late 1 asss, Beethoven began to suffer from early symptoms of deafness, ND by 1802, Beethoven was convinced that the condition was not only permanent but was getting much worse. The cause of his deafness is still uncertain (Compton, 1). He was determined to prove that deafness was not a handicap to him (Thompson, 25). Beethovens deafness started to be noticeable, and by 1818 Beethoven was completely deaf (Schmitt, 28). In the year of 1812, Beethoven fell in love with the Eternally Beloved. Nobody knew her name except Beethoven, who did not mention it in any letter or to friends. Ender his first patron, Prince Karl Alcoholics, Beethoven wrote his first symphony. The first symphony was wrote in 1795, and was a set of three Trios. Beethoven believed that his income came from the successful sale of these works, but it actually came from Alcoholics (Tames, 12). This symphony was reflective of the classical era. He did not publish this symphony until he was 31 . In 1802, Beethoven wrote a second symphony. Beethoven named this symphony Grander Confine while In Halogenated where he wrote the symphony (Schism, 35).The second symphony is a work noted for sunny and optimistic tone (Tames, 15). Beethovens third symphony, made in 1803, is the one where he started writing his Tyler which was quite recognizably his own, rather than based on a previous composer (Tames, 16). The third symphony, originally called Bonaparte, was named after Napoleon Bonaparte. Later, Beethoven changed the name to Confusion Areola (Schmitt, 36). Two times as long as any one of Mozart or Hoydens symphonies, the third symphony challenged the idea of what a symphony is. The fourth Symphony was written in 1807.This symphony shows Beethoven as a than the third symphony, and had a more lively style (Thompson, 25). In the year of 1808, he wrote the fifth symphony. He went with Hayden to Estersoz Palace at Assassinated. His fifth is one of his most famous symphonies. Work on the fifth was started before the fourth and was published after the fourth. This is one of the most popular symphonies of all time, and was performed on the 22 of December 1808. (Schmitt, 41) This symphony was made popular because he used many instruments that were not normally use in orchestral works at that time (Thompson, 26).The sixth symphony, is in a class of its own. Named Confusion Pastorals, this symphony is based on scenes from the country, and expressed Beethovens love for the nature that surrounded him (Schmitt, 41). This piece started the bridge between the Classical era and the Romantic era (Thompson, 28). The seventh symphony was written in the summer of 1811, and the start of 1812, and was performed on December 8, 1813, at the University of Vienna (Schmitt, 42). This is a smaller piece, and presented a very happy mood reflecting dance like rhythms (Thompson, 33-35). The eighth symphony, named Confusion-Line, was composed during 1812, while at the spas in Bohemia. This was performed on the 27 of February 1814. At first, the eighth received little notice, but then it gradually began to get the fame it deserved (Schmitt, 42-44). The ninth Symphony (completed in 1823) was his best and his last symphony. By this time he finally understood his own mind speaking: l carry out my thoughts about with me for a long time Before I set them down My memory is so faithful to me that I am sure not to forget a theme which I have passed.I make many changes, reject and re-attempt until I am satisfied. Then the working-out begins in my head.. . Let rises, grows upward, and I hear and see the picture as a whole take shape and stand before me as though cast in a single piece, so that all that is left is the work of writing it down (Tames, 25). He performed the ninth at the Krenovator Theater. When he directed the performance his back was to the audience (Thompson, 41). When the audience went wild, the alto soloist had to tug at his sleeve so that he could turn and see the ovation he had earned (Melt.Beethoven) The famous Ode to Joy (coral) is included in this symphony. Beethovens works include nine symphonies, one opera, two coral masses, 48 sonatas, ten overtures, and dozens of trios, quartets, and songs. Many of these works were sketched out during long walks (Tames, 12). His greatest breakthroughs in imposition came in instrumental work, including his symphonies (Compton, 1). Beethoven had a great influence on music. Not only did he create a bridge between the 18th-century classical period and new beginnings of Romanticism, but he started a new era of music.Beethovens last years were marked with illness. On March 24, 1827, Beethoven died in Vienna. A crowd of almost 30,000 people attended his funeral and burial at Vienna Central Cemetery (Schmitt, 31). The bicentennial of his death was celebrated funeral, Beethovens friend wrote a moving address which stated: We, the representatives of an entire nation, come to mourn the passing of the gracious mouth by which music spoke, the man who inherited and enriched the Immortal fame of Handel and Bach, of Hayden and Mozart. He was an artist, and who shall stand beside him? Because he shut himself off from the world, they called him hostile and callous He withdrew from his fellow-men after he had given them everything, and received nothing in return. But until his death, he preserved a fathers heart for mankind. Thus he was, thus he died, thus he will live to the end of time! (Thompson, 46).

Precious Things in Life Essay Example

Precious Things in Life Paper Precious Things in Life In today’s modern society, economical status determines one’s social status. I have some friends who do not have any problem on spending their money to keep up with their lifestyle. They are given such privilege from their parents to be able to spend materially. In result, their social status among the others is considered privilege otherwise because of their exclusive lifestyle. They are often seen with a group of people who are in the same status range as them. It may seem as if they are living a perfect life surrounded by high-end materials to a group of loyal friends. However, it doesn’t seem as perfect as it seems once I get to know some of them. Money may buy us everything we can ever wish for. It allows us to purchase goods and services, gain respect from other people; it provides us with security, or even a family in some cases. Nevertheless, money can never provides us with permanent satisfaction but temporary. Money can never buy us priceless moments, true happiness, or most importantly, time. These are the three things that we always wished for in our lives. And my friends who live in a perfect life we all always assume, hardly experience true happiness behind the overwhelming economic supply their parents gave them. Their problems mostly revolve around family issues. Their parents are too busy working they don’t have any time to spare with them, thus them only could show their love by letting their children get whatever they want. One of them once told me, she would trade everything she has right now with her parents’ time so she can feel the joy of spending even just a day being together as a whole family. Ever since she was a little girl, her parents barely spend time with her. She reminisced on how she wanted to go to a theme park badly with her parents like her friends at school always do, and ended up spending her day with her babysitter and her driver. She told me how she would have dinner at the dining table all by herself in silence, or sometimes she would ask her loyal babysitter to sit down with her just to chat. She never gets home after school straightaway, she rather go out anywhere but home because she always thought she could find something better outside her home, temporarily. She may be able to get the most expensive designer handbags anytime, but the one thing she wished her money can be purchase for is the time and happiness with her family. She also doubts the friendship some of her friends in the group gave her, because they could be tagging her along just for fame, not for a genuine friendship. From just hearing a story from one person, I could never be more thankful for what I have now. I may not have the same amount of money as they do, but I am given some things she could never buy with her money. Temporary satisfaction may feel nice at first, but in the end it doesn’t matter because the happiness does not last forever. Money can never buy us everything that is what I feel the society should learn and understand more about. We often think money solves everything therefore life would be easier the more money you get. Happiness and time are two precious things that keep our life interesting and we often forget that. The most precious things in life are priceless and they can only be gained, not purchased. Humans tend to have their own concept of happiness. These days, the society finds their happiness from rich food, fine clothes, beautiful sights and ease. This is the problem. Sometimes the concept of happiness cannot be defined in physical form. Precious things that happened in our lives are designed in such twisted way for us to learn to appreciate for all we got. Will money buy you happiness? No. Will more money gives you happiness? Maybe. A severe lack of money may brings you unhappiness but a genuine happiness is invaluable and has to be earned otherwise. Precious moments, too, are those we often wish to be able to capture them or nonetheless, remember. Everyone have a certain moment in our lives we wish to be able to turn back time and to experience it once again. In my friend’s case, she barely experience one and is waiting for it to happen, which she claimed to be impossible. Most of us think that spending time with friends is a lot more fun than stay at home with our family. We often don’t realize that there are people out there who would trade their money just for a moment we could have for free everyday. Isn’t it tragic that her money may buy her acceptance from her friends but her own family? Perhaps we should question the genuineness of their friendship as it may be based on material acceptance. A true friendship is priceless and it will be clearly obvious when you hit the lowest point of your life.

Communal Harmony Essays

Communal Harmony Essays Communal Harmony Essay Communal Harmony Essay Mankind demands the realization of diverse values to ensure their individual and collective well being. It is also observed that certain communal forces in the society engage in exploitation, oppression, persecution, and other forms of deprivation resulting in disturbing communal harmony. Based on these observations are the beginnings of what today are called human rights and the legal processes, national and international, associated with them. The principle of human rights has widespread acceptance domestically and internationally, however, there is no complete agreement on the nature of such rights or their substantive scope. Despite this lack of consensus, certain fundamental aspects are widely accepted. Regardless of their ultimate origin or justification, human rights are understood to represent individual and group demands for the shaping and sharing of power, wealth, spiritual pursuit, and other cherished values in community process. Most fundamental are the value of respect and its constituent elements of reciprocal tolerance and mutual forbearance in the pursuit of all other values. Consequently, they imply claims against persons and institutions that impede realization, and standards for judging the legitimacy of laws and traditions. The Charter of the United Nations (1945) begins by reaffirming a faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small. It states that the purposes of the United Nations are, among other things, to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self determination of peoples . . . [and] to achieve international co-operation . . . in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion . . . . And, in two key articles, all members pledge themselves to take joint and separate action in cooperation with the Organization for the achievement of these and related purposes. In our society, it is the responsibility of every individual to preserve harmony and protect individual rights. Recently Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu was rocked by bomb blasts on February 14th 1998, and since then the police in various parts of the state have discovered a huge quantity of explosives. These terrorist actions were blamed the police on Al-Umma, a Muslim fundamentalist organisation that has its base in Kottaimedu, a predominantly Muslim area in Coimbatore. Many looked with suspicion on their Muslim neighbors and men and women who had lived earlier in love and harmony now considered their neighbors as their enemies.

Sycamore - Not Just a Planetree

Sycamore - Not Just a Planetree The sycamore tree (Platanus occidentalis) is readily identifiable with broad, maplelike leaves and a trunk and limb complexion of mixed green, tan and cream. Some suggest it looks like camouflage. It is a member of one of the planets oldest clan of trees (Platanaceae) and paleobotanists have dated the family to be over 100 million years old. Living sycamore trees can reach ages of five hundred to six hundred years. The American sycamore or western planetree is North Americas largest native broadleaf tree and is often planted in yards and parks. Its hybridized cousin, the London planetree, adapts very well to urban living. The improved sycamore is New York Citys tallest street tree and is the most common tree in Brooklyn, New York. Champion The record American sycamore, according to The Urban Tree Book and the Big Tree Register, is 129 feet tall. This Jeromesville, Ohio tree has a limb spread that spans 105 feet and the trunk measures 49 feet in circumference. Threats Unfortunately, sycamore is susceptible to anthracnose fungus which makes leaves turn brown and contorts stem growth. Witches brooms or leafless sprout clusters form and grow along the limbs. Most urban plantings are of the hybrid London planetree because of its resistance to anthracnose. Habitat and Lifestyle The deciduous sycamore is fast growing and sun-loving, growing seventy feet in seventeen years on a good site. Very often it divides into two or more trunks near the ground and its massive branches form a wide-spreading, irregular crown. Mature trees usually develop hollow portions and areas of decay making them vulnerable to wind and ice. The outer bark peels away to create a mottled patchwork of tans, whites, grays, greens and sometimes yellows. The inner bark is usually smooth. The leaves are very large with 3 to 5 leaf lobes and are often 7 to 8 inches long and wide. Stalked unisexual flowers of both sexes appear on the same tree when leaves emerge. Fruits dangle from long stems and are aggregates of feathery seed nutlets (achenes). The tree is a very aggressive stump sprouter. Lore The tree was probably named by early colonists who noted a resemblance to the English sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus). The sycamore tree of the Bible is actually the sycamore fig (Ficus sycomorus). The tree is not very good for construction but is highly prized as butcher blocks.A hybrid developed from the American sycamore, called the London planetree, has become the urban tree of choice in North America and Europe.Sycamore seeds accompanied the lunar orbit of Apollo 14 in 1971 and were planted across from Philadelphias Independence Hall.

Relationship Between Wage and Education Level Dissertation

Relationship Between Wage and Education Level - Dissertation Example This paper approves in view of the above, it was observed that although a direct correlation between education and wages could not be established; yet, there is enough peripheral evidence to generalise that the Chinese population, hold education in the right earnest. However, the return to education as documented in many labour studies such as the US Bureau of Labour Statistics (2010); Canadian HRSDC (2008) and US College Board (2007), needs to be investigated. In the subsequent chapter, the researcher intends to draw conclusions from the study discussing the limitations and the recommendations for future works on this subject. This paper analyzes the discussion on the relation between educational and earning which reflected the research undertaken in the western world; most of which have been a strong positive relationship. In the present study involving the four Chinese companies located in four geographic locations spread over China, provided no direct evidence or a very weak positive correlation between educational attainment and wages earned in all the companies except that of China Mobile, a wholly owned subsidiary of China Telecommunications Limited, one of the largest companies in the World, known for its high wage structure and employee benefit programmes. The reasons for this anomaly could be many folds. It recommends Based on the critical review of the literatures and critical analysis of the findings of the primary and secondary study, the researcher recommends that further researcher need to be carried out to ascertain the degree of association with educational attainment and wages earned. As by establishing these facts, more and more children can be persuaded to be educated and as Edward Everett once said, â€Å"Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army.†... Tourism in Turkey and its effects in the Grand Tarabya Hotel Term Paper

Tourism in Turkey and its effects in the Grand Tarabya Hotel - Term Paper Example This aspect stimulates the probable growth of the Grand Tarabya hotel across the country, while branching and enjoying economies of scale profitably. The research implements the overall impacts that the country, Turkey, and the Grand Tarabya Hotel enjoy from different practices towards international tourism sector. Tourism in turkey The country possesses a vast and beautiful Mediterranean coast that owns magnificent seaside beaches, with some of them having chronological factors (Bramwell, 2004). The country’s city of Istanbul bears a rich heritage of a distinct culture emanating from the music, dressing, to global business. The country owns a wide range of tourist attractions thus drawing many, for example, the country’s growing economy attracts international investors (Hall, 2006). There is a propellant reason that the country’s political stature maintains business-oriented views towards all the economic sectors, whilst maintaining a profound degree of stabilit y and heritage to draw positive attention towards the country’s activities. Turkey’s Istanbul city is the home of the historical Ottoman Empire that ruled for 653years, from the 13th to the 20th centuries. The empire stretched through the European, Asian, and African continents alike with a monarchical and stringent leadership. Another historical feature in turkey is the Blue Mosque that dates from the 1609-1616, yet the architectural features stand out for their exotic beauty. On Conflict Settlement Essay Example for Free

On Conflict Settlement Essay Schick (1995) defines a conflict as a â€Å"distinctive structure of desires and a belief† (p. 58). A conflict arises when an agent wants x and y wherein x and y are the only options available to the agent. Given this situation, an agent may choose to react in two ways. First, the agent may choose to avoid the conflict or second, the agent may choose to resolve the conflict. In the resolution of a conflict, the agent starts to think rationally by seizing to think that the options available to him involves choosing both x and y or losing both x and y. In this sense, the agent enables the resolution of the conflict through an internal mediation of his or her desires. The same thing applies when it comes to interpersonal conflict. The difference between the two merely lies in the existence of a particular situation wherein the desires and beliefs of two or more agents tend to counter that of the other. This shows the manner in which conflicts enable the â€Å"balancing of power† within an agent or within a group (Rummel, 1991, p. 76). The balancing of powers resulting from the occurrence of a conflict enables the balancing of the following elements: interests, capabilities, and wills. Rummel (1991) notes â€Å"conflict is a balancing of individual interests, capabilities, and wills. It is a simultaneous solution to the equations of power† (p. 77). Within an interpersonal conflict, it does not necessarily mean that the agent(s) whose beliefs and desires take precedence over the other is the agent(s) who hold power within a group. The balance of powers refers to the mutual satisfaction of the different and contending interests within a group. In other words, the balance of powers may be understood as the result of the mediation within an interpersonal conflict. In the previous presentation, one of the groups presented steps that may be followed in case a conflict arises. The steps that they provided involve the agent(s) development of self-awareness. The importance of self-awareness here can be seen if one considers that it is only through the agent(s) identification of the clashing beliefs and desires that the agent(s) will be able to achieve the resolution of the conflict. This was shown by the group through a skit that they presented in class. One might note that in the skit itself, the group was able to present that failure to develop awareness may lead to aggression which might further enhance the conflict at hand. The importance of this skit does not lie in its means of providing an example for those who were present; it also enabled the audience’s direct experience of a conflict. Deutsch et al (2006) notes, â€Å"observing models deal effectively with difficult situations allows the observer to achieve greater freedom in coping with current and future problems of all sorts (p. 309). Despite of this, the group however, was unable to show that resolution and aggression are not the only means in which a conflict may end. Matthews and Roberts (2004) notes that conflicts may also lead to â€Å"collaboration and appeals to authority† (p. 451). Although one might state that this also leads to the resolution of a conflict in the sense that it ends a conflict, it is important to note that conflicts that end in this manner further breeds the creation of further disagreements amongst the agent(s) involved. Matthews and Roberts (2004) further notes that in the resolution of a conflict, there are certain skills which individuals should learn. These involve â€Å"active listening, assertiveness, expression of feelings in appropriate ways, empathy and perspective taking, cooperation, negotiation, and methods for countering bias† (p. 451). Although the group was unable to present all of these point, they were able to relay well the information that they had prepared for the presentation. In summary, given the time constraints on the group, I think the group was able to relay helpful information that will aid the members of the audience in the process of understanding and handling situations that may lead to both personal and interpersonal conflict.
